Monica M. Suter, International Director representing our District, and an associated member of the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (NCUTCD) announces the following:
The NCUTCD recommends to Federal Highways various updates and changes to the MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices). ITE is one of its 20 sponsoring organizations. ITE provides members on the National Committee as well as reviewers on technical committees. The NCUTCD has 8 technical committees: 1) Regulatory/Warning Signs; 2) Guide/Motorist Information Signs; 3) Markings; 4) Signals; 5) Temporary Traffic Controls; 6) Railroad Grade Crossings; 7) Bicycles; and 8) Research.
NCUTCD continues to need for experienced, available, and reliable reviewers for this important task affecting transportation standards and guidelines. Newer practitioners can also become involved and learn much by participating. NCUTCD holds two meetings each year, one prior to TRB in January and one in June in association with AASHTO’s meeting and location. See http://www.ncutcd.com/.
